New Section for Ascension Island Reports & Literature
A new section can be found under the Ascension Islands Menu called Literature. This section includes papers on the flora and fauna of Ascension Island produced by members of Services Ornithological Societies from 1982 - 2009. Work is still on going to covert older hard copy papers to digital and the area will be periodically updated.

Jun 10. The annual AOS CFT was completed at Rye Harbour NR with all who attended completing successfully. It was, however, a close call for most as there was a great deal of dawdling around the course to look at birds! Our thanks to Tom for organizing the event and introducing us to this Kent jewel of a site. Pictures of a selection of the birds seen can be viewed on Tim Hallchurch's web site.
May 10. A successful and well attended AGM weekend particularly given the far northern location with a new committee voted in. Highlights of the weekend included a Black Grouse lek on the Catterick Garrison training area and seeing the incredible progress made at Foxglove Covert.
Mar 10. The Bird Survey Techniques training day was well attended with presentations from Su Gough (BTO), Clare Backman (DE), Colin Wearn (RAFOS) and Roger Dickey (AOS). The day was well received with a mixture of classroom and practical work. It is hoped that those attending are now fired up to tackle the MOD Bird Count and the Bird Atlas using BirdTrack. Our special thank you to Su for imparting her knowledge and enthusiasm.
Jan 10. The annual New Year migration to the North Norfolk Coast for the ornithological 'first footing' provided near perfect weather - cold, dry and bright with very little wind - it did, however, remain bitterly cold! An excellent turnout given the inclement weather experienced inland and hindering MT movement. The highlights of the day were different for each person present but included: Twite, Snow Bunting, Bearded Tit, Barn Owls (flying in broad daylight) and Water Rail you could almost shake hands with! A full list will be posted soon. See the Gallery for a selection of Roger Dickey's images from the day.
